Remy Cabella made his first start for France as Les Bleus recorded a 1-1 friendly draw away at Serbia on Sunday.
The United forward - signed from Montpellier in July - was handed the number seven shirt by national boss Didier Deschamps for the fixture in Beograd, while Magpies teammate Moussa Sissoko also started.
Winning his third international cap, Cabella played a key role in Paul Pogba's 13th-minute opener for France, seeing his corner from the left bounce across the six-yard box, with Pogba providing a simple finish.
At the start of the second period, the 24-year-old saw two efforts well saved by Serbia goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic.
And France were made to pay for their missed chances with ten minutes remaining when Manchester City's Aleksandar Kolarov drilled home a 25-yard free-kick.
Cabella lasted 60 minutes before being replaced by Alexandre Lacazette, while Sissoko was replaced by Mathieu Valbuena in the 82nd minute.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Rob Elliot was an unused substitute as Republic of Ireland grabbed a last-gasp 2-1 victory in Georgia in a European Championships qualifier, while Shane Ferguson also failed to make it off the bench as Northern Ireland came from behind to beat Hungary thanks to two late goals.
On Saturday, Cheick Tiote featured for Ivory Coast in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying triumph over Sierra Leone.
The midfield enforcer is yet to feature for United this season but played the full 90 minutes for his nation in Abidjan.
The Elephants fell behind just before half-time, but second half efforts from Seydou Doumbia and Gervinho secured all three points for Tiote and Co.
