Adam Campbell was unable to prevent Fleetwood Town from exiting the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the first round stage.
The United striker, who is approaching the end of his one-month loan spell with the League One outfit, was handed a starting spot for the Cod Army at home to Morecambe.
Gareth Evans gave Fleetwood an early lead, but their lower-division opponents hit back through Padraig Amond and Jack Redshaw to secure a passage into the next stage of the cup competition.
Campbell played for an hour up front and looked lively before being replaced by experienced front man Stephen Dobbie.
