Ashington Action For Beardsley's Boys

Written by Newcastle Utd

A young Newcastle United side will face non-league neighbours Ashington in a friendly on Thursday night

A young Magpies squad will face Northern League side Ashington at Woodhorn Lane on Thursday evening (kick-off 7.30pm).

Peter Beardsley is likely to include Ashington-born duo Jonathyn Quinn and Macaulay Gillesphey in his starting XI for the friendly, but the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa, Adam Armstrong, Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic - who all starred in Monday's 5-2 Barclays Under-21 Premier League win over Reading - are not expected to be involved.

United last visited Ashington last October to take on a Northumberland XI in a benefit match for former England cricketer Steve Harmison.

And the Magpies beat Ashington 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the Northumberland FA Senior Cup in November 2011 as Bradden Inman scored both goals.

Admission on the night is £5 for adults and £2 concessions.
