Alan Pardew has spoken of his sadness at the loss of "two of our greats".
And afterwards, Pardew paid tribute to the loyal Magpies supporter who tragically lost his life along with another Newcastle fanatic, John Alder, in last month's MH17 air disaster.
"It was important for the city that we honoured the memory of Liam and it was done in a fabulous way, in my opinion," said Pardew.
"I thought it was a great service this morning and we obviously were there to pay our tribute to someone who was a mad Geordie fan.
"It's such a shame that we've lost two of our greats but I thought it was done in a very nice manner this morning, and respect to everyone who was there."
Pardew also said the Club had, and would continue to, offer as much support as possible to the grieving families of Liam and John.
"We've tried to be there as much as we can and support them as much as we can, and I think we've done a number of things at the Club that the family have appreciated," he explained.
That's all we can do. It's a small measure for the loss that they've had."
