Mike Dean will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture at Aston Villa on Saturday (12.45pm kick-off).
It is the first time this season the Wirral-based official has overseen a Magpies' match, although he was in the middle of two matches last season - including United's 2-1 triumph at Villa Park 11 months ago.
Dean, aged 46, began officiating in 1985 and progressed through the ranks to the full referees' list in 1997 and the Select Group of referees for the Premier League in 2000.
He has taken charge of the 2004 Community Shield, the 2008 FA Cup final and the 2011 League Cup final.
On Saturday at Villa Park, Dean will be assisted by John Brooks and Simon Long, with Martin Atkinson the game's fourth official.
