Colliers Clash Confirmed

Written by Newcastle Utd

A Newcastle United XI will face Northern League neighbours Ashington in a friendly fixture next week

A Newcastle United XI will take on Northern League neighbours Ashington in a friendly on Thursday, 28th August.

The Colliers will host the game at Woodhorn Lane with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Admission details will follow.

United last visited Ashington last October to take on a Northumberland XI in a benefit match for former England cricketer Steve Harmison.

And the Magpies beat Ashington 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the Northumberland FA Senior Cup in November 2011 as Bradden Inman scored both goals.

Newcastle youngsters Jonathyn Quinn and Macaulay Gillesphey were born in Ashington and both could feature in the friendly.

United's second-string drew 3-3 with Bolton in their opening Barclays Under-21 Premier League fixture of the season and host Reading on Monday, 25th August.
