Newcastle United's official matchday programme on Sunday will pay tribute to John Alder and Liam Sweeney

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Matchday Programme

Newcastle United's official matchday programme on Sunday against Manchester City will pay tribute to John Alder and Liam Sweeney.

The pair lost their lives last month in the MH17 Malaysia Airlines tragedy while travelling to watch the Magpies play in pre-season in New Zealand.

And United are using Sunday's Barclays Premier League opener to commemorate John and Liam.

As well as floral tributes, a minutes' silence, the creation of the Alder Sweeney memorial garden at St. James' Park and a community award in their name, the duo will also be recognised heavily in the matchday programme.

Manager Alan Pardew and captain Fabricio Coloccini lead the tributes to John and Liam, while there are also messages from the football world among a number of other tributes.

The 100-page publication is also jam-packed with content for the new season.

There is an exclusive interview with summer signing Remy Cabella, and chats with Tim Krul, Moussa Sissoko and Mike Williamson, as Newcastle aim to make a positive start to the 2014/15 campaign.

Eight pages of information and analysis on opponents Manchester City is also included, along with a feature on the Magpies' oldest ex-player, 91-year-old Ivor Broadis.

And at just £3 for a century of pages, there is plenty included to keep fans entertained before, during and after the match.

For those supporters unable to get to St. James' Park this weekend, the programme is available to buy in physical form, either on a one-off basis or as a subscription, at www.o-publishing.co.uk.

It can also be purchased online and downloaded for all platforms, at just £34.99 for the entire season or £2.99 per game.

The Manchester City issue will be available from 3.30pm on Sunday, so just in time for kick-off.

The issue from last weekend's pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad is currently available as a free download, and can be found here.
