Everything you need to know about Newcastle United's new signing Rémy Cabella
- Rémy was born in Ajaccio, the capital city of Corsica, on 8th March, 1990.
- The attacking midfielder, who can play on either flank or in a central role, joined Montpellier's Academy at the age of 14 from local club Gazélec Ajaccio, and rapidly progressed through their ranks.
- Having signed a three-year professional contract with Montpellier in July 2009, just two months later Cabella suffered a cruciate ligament injury which ruled him out for the whole campaign.
- He was then sent on loan to Arles-Avignon for the 2010/11 campaign, where he made his professional debut on 4th December, 2010, against Nancy, and went on to make 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
- Rémy returned to the Montpellier first team, making his La Paillade bow on 6th August, 2011, against Auxerre. From there he became a key figure, making 115 appearances and scoring 28 goals across three seasons.
- He won the Ligue 1 title alongside current United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in May 2012.
- A former France under-21 international, Cabella has one senior international cap to date, which came in a World Cup warm-up match in May against Norway.
- Originally placed on standby, he was given a late call-up to the French World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Clement Grenier. However, Cabella did not see any action in Brazil, and was an unused substitute throughout.
