Krul And Co Suffer Semi Defeat

Written by Newcastle Utd

Tim Krul watched from the sidelines as Holland were knocked out of the World Cup at the semi-final stage

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Tim Krul watched from the sidelines as Holland were knocked out of the World Cup at the semi-final stage on Wednesday night.

The stopper was an unused substitute, with the Dutch suffering a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Argentina. The sides had played out a goalless draw over the previous 120 minutes.

Krul, who was Netherlands' hero in the quarter-finals with two penalty saves having come on as a substitute, wasn't called upon by manager Louis van Gaal this time around.

Wesley Sjneider and Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar missed the crucial spot-kicks, as Argentina go on to face Germany in Sunday's final.

Holland will face Brazil in the third/fourth place play-off match on Saturday (9pm kick-off).
