A tournament in Germany and the now traditional friendly against Gateshead are included in Newcastle United under-21s' pre-season schedule for this summer.

Peter Beardsley's side travel to the International Stadium to take on the Heed - last season's Skrill Premier play-off runners-up - on Friday, 18th July with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Then they travel to south-west Germany to compete in the International U19 Tournament of SpVgg Oberndorf between Thursday, 24th July and Monday, 28th July - a few days before Alan Pardew's first team travel to Schalke.

The eight-team event will feature teams from five different countries, including Brazil and Spain, with each team playing five matches. Last year, Benfica, Manchester City and Borussia M√∂nchengladbach were among the sides invited.

And on Monday, 4th August Beardsley's boys will play against Barnsley's under-21 side at the Oakwell Academy. Kick-off is 1.30pm and members of the public are welcome to attend. Admission is free.

United also hope to confirm at least one additional second-string friendly, which will be announced on nufc.co.uk.
