Released Newton To Join Rotherham

Midfielder Conor Newton will join Rotherham United upon the expiration of his contract

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Midfielder Conor Newton will join Rotherham United upon the expiration of his contract, after not being offered a new deal at St. James' Park.

The 22-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the Millers and could be plying his trade in the Championship next term if Rotherham win their League One play-off final against Leyton Orient on Sunday.

Newton is a Magpies' Academy product, born on Tyneside and having been at the Club since the age of nine.

He was a regular for Newcastle's youth teams and second-string before spending the last season-and-a-half on loan at Scottish Premiership outfit St. Mirren, where he caught the eye, scoring in the Buddies' 2013 Scottish League Cup final victory over Hearts.

Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Newton every success at Rotherham and in the rest of his career.
