Conor Newton scored in what could turn out to be his final match for St. Mirren.
The 22-year-old midfielder's loan with the Buddies expired after Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Hearts.
Ironically, it was last season's Scottish League Cup final winner against the Jambos which earned Newton hero status in Paisley and he struck from close range after 28 minutes.
But Dale Carrick equalised for already-relegated Hearts in the 48th minute, with Newton coming off after 73 minutes after a typically energetic performance in which he picked up a yellow card.
However Adam Campbell, who has found opportunities hard to come by since scoring twice in his first four games for the Saints, once again remained on the bench.
After netting twice in his last two games, Romain Amalfitano was also an unused substitute as Dijon won 4-2 at Istres on Friday.
On Saturday evening, James Tavernier started and played the whole game as Rotherham travelled to Preston North End in their League One play-off semi-final first leg.
And Haris Vuckic entered the fray in the 83rd minute as the game finished 1-1, with the Slovenian seeing a late header well saved by Declan Rudd. The second leg is at the New York Stadium on Thursday.
