Resolute Magpies Keep It Clean

Written by Newcastle Utd

Saturday saw Newcastle keep a 12th clean sheet of the season in all competitions, with Tim Krul responsible for 11 of those shut-outs

Saturday's win over Cardiff was achieved thanks to a 12th clean sheet of the season in all competitions.

Tim Krul made important saves in each half to keep the Bluebirds at bay at St. James' Park.

And unsurprisingly, the goalkeeper - who has missed only four games all season - has been responsible for 11 of those shut-outs, with Rob Elliot between the posts for August's 2-0 Capital One Cup win at Morecambe.

Mathieu Debuchy's importance to the side is illustrated by the fact that he has been in the defence for 10 of the 12 clean sheets.

Mike Williamson, who only came into the side at the end of September, has helped United to claim nine shut-outs while skipper Fabricio Coloccini's presence has also been key to keeping it tight - he's been in the backline for eight of those matches.

The full list of clean sheets is as follows: West Ham United h (0-0), Morecambe a (Capital One Cup) (2-0), Fulham h (1-0), Leeds United h (Capital One Cup) (2-0), Chelsea h (2-0), Tottenham Hotspur a (1-0), Manchester United a (1-0), Crystal Palace a (3-0), Norwich City a (0-0), Aston Villa h (1-0), Crystal Palace h (1-0), Cardiff City h (3-0).
