Young Lions Roar Again

Written by Newcastle Utd

Magpies pair Freddie Woodman and Adam Armstrong helped England under-17s to a second victory in three days on Friday afternoon

Freddie Woodman kept his second clean sheet in two games as England beat Albania in their second UEFA European Under-17 Championships Elite Round match.

And his Newcastle team-mate Adam Armstrong was only denied a goal by the woodwork and some good goalkeeping in the Czech Republic.

The Young Lions had beaten the group hosts 1-0 on Wednesday and recorded the same scoreline on Friday afternoon, with Chelsea's Isaiah Brown scoring the only goal.

Brown had earlier had a goal ruled out for offside following a pass from Armstrong, who saw an early shot saved and then saw a 20-yard drive crash back off the crossbar.

He was then replaced by Manchester United's Demetri Mitchell in the 71st minute while Woodman played the whole match and was rarely troubled apart from a comfortable save from Federico Zenuni's long-range strike.

England now face Italy in their third and final game as they look to qualify for the Championships in Malta in May.
