Boys Braced For Boro Battle

Written by Newcastle Utd

United's under-18s make the short trip to Hurworth, near Darlington, to take on Middlesbrough on Saturday

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

Newcastle's under-18s face Middlesbrough on Saturday (kick-off 11am) and go into the game on the back of successive wins over Manchester United and Blackburn.

Greg Olley has been on target in both games while Tom Heardman scored what proved to be the winner against Rovers in midweek, and both are in Dave Watson's squad for the short trip to Rockliffe Park, near Darlington.

With a handful of Watson's squad involved with the under-21s at Liverpool on Friday night, the 16-man party for the Middlesbrough match could still change.

But in goal, one of Paul Woolston or Ben Smith is set to make a first appearance of the season at this level with Freddie Woodman preparing to link up with England under-17s.

The squad is: James Atkinson, Daniel Barlaser, Macauley Booth, Ben Drennan, Andy Hall, Tom Heardman, Jack Hunter, Joe Kerridge, Adam Laidler, Ryan McKinnon, Michael Newberry, Greg Olley, Jonathyn Quinn, Ben Smith, Liam Smith, Paul Woolston.
