United Must Wait To Learn Final Opponents

Written by Newcastle Utd

Ashington and Blyth Spartans will need a replay to decide who will face Newcastle in the final of the Northumberland FA Senior Cup

Newcastle United must wait to discover who they will face in the final of the Techflow Group Northumberland FA Senior Cup after Ashington and Blyth Spartans could not be seperated in their semi-final on Tuesday night.

The Magpies beat Whitley Bay 1-0 on Monday, but even extra time could not decide the winner between the Colliers and Spartans at Woodhorn Lane.

Dan Maguire gave Blyth the lead after a goalless first half, but former Newcastle youngster Marc Walton equalised for Ashington.

That forced extra time and the hosts went ahead through Chris Glass but Maguire's second levelled again and, with no penalty shoot-out, there will now be a replay at Croft Park.

The final will be played at St. James' Park on Tuesday, 22nd April with a 7pm kick-off.
