Neil Swarbrick

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Neil Swarbrick will take charge of Newcastle United's home clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays Premier League on Wednesday (7.45pm kick-off).

It is the third time this season the Lancashire-based official has refereed a Magpies' match, having been the man in the middle of October's Capital One Cup fourth round extra-time defeat against Manchester City, and a fine 3-0 victory away at Crystal Palace in December.

On that afternoon at Selhurst Park, Swarbrick booked three players including Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote, while also awarded United a late penalty.

In total during the 2013/14 campaign, he has overseen 22 games across the Premier League, Championship, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, issuing 67 yellow cards, one red card and awarding two penalties.

The 43-year-old whistler only took up refereeing at the age of 29, but within six years was promoted to the national list of assistant referees, and four years later was added to the referees list.

Swarbrick's first Premier League appointment came in December 2010, when he was the man in the middle of a goalless draw between Fulham and Sunderland.

On Wednesday at St. James' Park, Swarbrick will be assisted by Lee Betts and John Brooks, with Mike Dean the game's fourth official.
