Tavernier Up For Award

Written by Newcastle Utd

United defender James Tavernier, currently on loan with Rotherham, is up for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

Newcastle United's on-loan full-back James Tavernier has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award.

The 22-year-old is with Rotherham until the end of the season and has been impressing as the Millers continue to climb the table.

And his form has not gone unnoticed after he was named on a four-man shortlist of the division's top-performing players for January.

He was particularly influential in the Millers' 3-0 win over Shrewsbury, when he scored one and had a hand in the other two goals.

Nicky Ajose (Peterborough), Scott Cuthbert (Leyton Orient) and Marcello Trotta (Brentford) are the other names in the frame.

Former Sunderland striker Don Goodman, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, League Managers' Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins make up the judging panel and the winner will be announced on Friday.
