Dan's The Man In La Manga

Written by Newcastle Utd

Turkey's under-17s opened their La Manga Tournament campaign with a draw against Sweden, with Daniel Barlaser involved

Daniel Barlaser helped Turkey's under-17s open their La Manga Tournament campaign with a 1-1 draw against Sweden on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old winger, who was born in Gateshead but is of Turkish descent, is the only British-based player in Hakan Tecimer's squad for the competition in Spain.

And he appeared for the final 15 minutes of their first match of the four-team tournament.

Norway are next up for Barlaser and his Turkish team-mates on Friday, before Slovakia provide the opposition on Sunday.

The final will take place on Tuesday, 11th February.

Barlaser has made 11 starts and three substitute appearances for Newcastle's under-18s this term, and made his under-21 debut in the Techflow Group Northumberland FA Senior Cup win over North Shields in December before coming from the bench against Tottenham in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League loss at Tottenham last month.
