Youngsters at Montague and North Fenham Boys Club received a surprise visit from two Newcastle United stars last week, as they search for a new home.
Assistant manager John Carver, a former Montagu player, and defender Paul Dummett held a training session for the under-nines, going through a number of passing, movement and shooting drills which United's first team use.
As well as passing on their expertise, there was also an added boost for the local grassroots club, as Carver handed over a donation from Magpies' manager Alan Pardew towards improving their facilities.
And for the boss's right-hand man, it was nice to put something back into the club where it all kicked-off for him.
"I started my football at Montagu at the age of eight," explained Carver.
"Just playing, coaching and getting involved with the lads brought back so many good memories for me.
"They are in better shape than when I played - they have a nice artificial indoor surface now - but they need a new club house because this one is close to being condemned.
"So a lot of former players like myself are trying to raise funds and awareness to give these kids somewhere to play.
"More than 350 boys and girls a week play here, which is phenomenal, but if we can't find a facility for them then we are going to have big problems.
"We want to keep them off the streets and do as much as we can to keep grassroots football alive at this club."
