Tottenham v Newcastle: Key Moments

Written by Newcastle Utd

The big moments, including the goal and all of Tim Krul's saves, as Newcastle beat Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

Tottenham Hotspur 0
Newcastle United 1 (Remy 12)

SECOND HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons90+5mins: What a win for Newcastle United - they've got all three points here at White Hart Lane. The Magpies led after 12 minutes through Loic Remy's goal and owed much to several great saves from Tim Krul. The Spurs fans aren't happy at all but the Magpies fans who made the long journey for this 12 noon kick-off are glad they did. Click here for the match report.

90mins: There will be five minutes of stoppage time for Newcastle to hold on.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons88mins: Debuchy fouls Eriksen, who takes the resulting free kick but Krul punches it away. Then as Newcastle break, Sissoko is chopped down by Dawson who is booked.

SUB-MDC-icons84mins: Gabriel Obertan is on in place of Gouffran, who has ran himself into the ground.

83mins: This time Krul is beaten - but Vertonghen's header from Townsend's corner crashes back off the bar.

81mins: For the sixth or seventh time today, Krul saves United. Defoe and Soldado were both involved as the ball fell to Paulinho but the keeper made another stunning stop before getting up to keep out Dawson's rather less-challenging follow-up.

77mins: After good work from Anita, Cabaye picks out Cisse with a delighful floated pass and the Senegalese striker goes for the volley, which flies over the bar.

SUB-MDC-icons74mins: Goalscorer Remy is given a well earned rest, with Papiss Cisse taking his place up front.

70mins: Townsend, never one afraid of taking a shot, hits one from 22 yards but Krul is once again in the way, making a good parry and pushing the ball away from danger.

SUB-MDC-icons69mins: On comes Jermain Defoe for Tottenham in place of Sigurdsson. That's Andre Villas-Boas' final change.

63mins: Townsend outpaces Santon and fires in a shot which Krul should probably hold - but we'll forgive him as he's played so well - then Soldado gets his head to the rebound but the ball loops into the goalkeeper's arms for a double-save.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons60mins: Sissoko is booked for fouling Vertonghen, who was in full flow and heading towards the United penalty area.

SUB-MDC-icons59mins: Vurnon Anita replaces Shola Ameobi, who has done a great job in the targetman role.

57mins: As the resulting corner is only half-cleared, Debuchy heads the ball back into the danger area and Gouffran evades his marker but miskicks when a better connection could have made it 2-0. Then Spurs race upfield and Walker crosses, but Debuchy is back to make a goalsaving interception.

56mins: Sissoko relieves the pressure with a bursting run which sees him outmuscle Vertonghen and get in a shot which Friedel blocks.

53mins: Gylfi Sigurdsson's free kick deflects off the wall but is somehow kept out by Krul, who had started diving the other way, before Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa makes a crucial block of his own. Tottenham will be wondering how they're not back on level terms.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons52mins: Debuchy is shown the game's first yellow card for a foul on Paulinho just outside the box. That means the right-back will pick up a one-match man as it's his fifth booking of the season.

50mins: Sandro strides forwards and shoots from nearly 30 yards, with his blaster zipping a foot or so wide.

49mins: It's Krul with another top save as United are almost carved open. Townsend charges down an attempted clearance from Davide Santon, then plays a one-two before pulling the ball back for Eriksen. He has time and space to sidefoot past Krul but the keeper blocks with his trailing leg before Mike Williamson hacks the ball off the line.

SUB-MDC-iconsWHISTLE-MDC-icons46mins: The Magpies get the second half started and will be looking to continue where they left off with that impressive first half display. Spurs make two changes at the break, with Sandro on in place of Mousa Dembele and Younes Kaboul replacing Chiriches.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons45+3mins: Newcastle lead at the break through Loic Remy's 12th minute goal and the Spurs fans - whose side would go second in the table with a win - are getting edgy; indeed there are boos as the teams head down the tunnel. Tim Krul has made two superb saves but the Magpies are good value for this. Click here for the half time report.

45mins: The fourth official, Phil Dowd, signals a minimum of three minutes of stoppage time just before Chiriches heads off target from a corner - and gets a bang to the nose in the process, which will mean more added time.

42mins: For the second time in the last few minutes, Krul comes to United's rescue with another super stop to keep out Paulinho's curler. Again, the ball looked set for the back of the net before the keeper got a fingertip to it.

38mins: Newcastle have the ball in the Spurs net again but this time, it's disallowed as Shola Ameobi was just offside as he received the ball before waltzing around Friedel.

37mins: Moussa Sissoko fails to clear his lines after winning the ball from Andros Townsend on the edge of his box and that allows Eriksen to crack in a stinging shot but it's too close to Krul, who gathers at the second attempt.

29mins: What a save from Krul to preserve United's advantage. Eriksen whips in a wonderful free-kick and Soldado's header looks destined for the top corner but the Dutch goalkeeper soars to his left to push it behind. He then gets a good, firm punch to the ball as it comes back in from the resulting corner, too.

27mins: Vertonghen again has a go, this time after a free-kick from 25 yards is played short to him, but his powerful effort zips narrowly wide of the target.

24mins: Jan Vertonghen cuts inside and shoots from the edge of the box but Krul is down quickly to get right behind the Belgian defender's drive.

18mins: The ball sits up kindly for Paulinho to try his luck from 25 yards or so, but his shot skids wide of Krul's near post.

17mins: Debuchy wins a free kick and from Cabaye's delivery, Friedel punches away under pressure from a couple of yellow shirts.

GOAL-MDC-icons12mins - NEWCASTLE UNITED GOAL (0-1): That pressure pays off as Yoan Gouffran again catches out that Spurs backline with a slide-rule pass and Remy races onto it. This time he takes the ball around 42-year-old Friedel and taps it into the empty net before any Tottenham players can get back.

10mins: A great chance for Newcastle as Yohan Cabaye splits the Spurs defence and Loic Remy beats the offside trap to race through on goal but Vlad Chiriches gets across to nick it away just before the Frenchman can shoot. Brad Friedel flaps at the resulting corner and it comes to out to Mathieu Debuchy, whose half-volley is pushed away by the goalkeeper but Cabaye is first to the loose ball and forces the American into another stop. Good pressure from the Magpies.

9mins: From Christian Eriksen's right-wing corner, Roberto Soldado gets up well but sends his header over the bar.

7mins: Maybe it's the early kick-off, but it's been a rather low-key start with an early low cross from Paulinho which Tim Krul gathered at his near post the only goalmouth incident to speak of.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons1min: White Hart Lane fell silent before kick-off on Remembrance Sunday but now the crowd is in full voice as Tottenham take kick-off. They're wearing their home colours of white shirts and dark blue shorts and socks while Newcastle are debuting their new yellow and blue third kit. Both sets of shirts have poppies printed onto them.
