Great Scot: Heaney Called Up By Tartan Army

Written by Newcastle Utd

Magpies youngster Mackenzie Heaney has been chosen for Scotland's under-16 squad to face Wales in the Sky Sports Victory Shield this month

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

Mackenzie Heaney has been called up for the Scotland under-16 squad for their second Sky Sports Victory Shield match of the season against Wales this week.

The Tartan Army opened their campaign with a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland earlier in October, meaning they're joint top of the table with England - who they face in their final match at Stark's Park in Kirkcaldy in November.

Heaney, pictured with Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul, hails from Walker in Newcastle but qualifies through his grandfather. The 14-year-old midfielder's selection comes after he attended a training camp in Airdrie last week.

Scotland take on Wales in Aberystwyth on Thursday, 31st October and the match will be shown live on Sky Sports.

Heaney's Academy colleague Liam Bell has already played against Wales in the competition this year. He was part of the Engand team which won 1-0 in Kidderminster recently.
