Cheick Tiote

Cheick Tiote has called for a repeat of Newcastle's second-half performance at Everton when they take on Cardiff at the weekend.

United were distinctly second best for the opening 45 minutes at Goodison Park and found themselves 3-0 down, but looked like a different side after the break and almost managed to salvage something from the game.

And Tiote has challenged his team-mates to carry on where they left off if they are to clip the wings of the newly-promoted Bluebirds, who have won two, drawn two and lost two of their Barclays Premier League games so far this term - including a 2-1 win at Fulham last weekend.

"I think there are some positives to take out of the game, particularly about the second half," the Ivorian told nufcTV as he looked ahead to the fixture in South Wales.

"If we play like that on Saturday, we've got a chance to win the game.

"In the second half we came back with more motivation on the pitch. That made the difference

"After the second goal, we believed we could score another one.

"We pushed and pushed and (Loic) Remy missed the last chance of the game, so that was a big blow for us, but I think we've got some positive things to take out of the game.

"That's over now and we need to think about Saturday."

Monday night was Tiote's first league start since the opening day defeat at Manchester City and he will hope to keep his place at the Cardiff City Stadium.

"For me, it was good to be back in the starting XI," he said.

"I will do my job all the time and we need to stay strong and stay together for the game on Saturday."
