Loan Watch: Cup Of Cheer

Written by Newcastle Utd

Two of Newcastle's loan players helped their sides to progress in knockout competitions on Wednesday night

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

As Newcastle made progress in the Capital One Cup this week, two of the Club's loan players also helped their temporary teams advance in knockout competitions.

Shane Ferguson played for 83 minutes as Birmingham beat Swansea 3-1 at St. Andrew's in the Capital One Cup third round.

And it was only after he came off that the Welsh side pulled a goal back as Lee Clark's side produced arguably the shock of the round.

In Greece, Mehdi Abeid's Panathinaikos beat Ergotelis 2-1 in Athens.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, Romain Amalfitano started and played for an hour as Dijon beat Creteil 3-1 in Ligue 2.
