A Newcastle United XI will take on a side chosen by Steve Harmison next month as part of the Durham and England cricket star's benefit year.
The match, which will be played at Ashington's Woodhorn Lane ground, will kick off at 7pm on Thursday, October 10th.
Harmison, a lifelong Newcastle fan, will play against the Magpies along with a host of the Northern League's best players including his brother James.
The match is one of several events organised to celebrate Harmison's contribution to cricket and to sport in the region and will also support the benefit committee's chosen charities, The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and The PCA Benevolent Fund.
Committee member Michael Thewlis, said: "The committee wanted to organize an event that reflects Stephen's passion for football, not just for NUFC but for the Northern Leagues, which he has watched keenly for years. Obviously, Stephen's links with NUFC are well documented and the fact that we are also supporting The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation also gives an extra incentive for people to show their support.
"We're delighted that Newcastle United and Ashington FC have been able to get involved in what should be a cracking night."
Admission is £6 for adults and £1.50 for juniors. Tickets can be purchased from Ashington Town Council and Ashington Football Club or reserved to collect on the day of the game by emailing [email protected]. Hospitality is available priced at £30 per person.
