Freddie Woodman started in goal for England under-17s as they began the FA International Tournament with a 3-1 defeat to Portugal on Wednesday.
The goalkeeper was helpless to prevent the Young Lions from slipping to a defeat at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton as the visitors' counter-attacking flair proved the difference.
It was his sixth cap at under-17 level - he also won two for the under-16s - and the first time that he's been on the losing side.
His Newcastle team-mate Adam Armstrong was also named in John Peacock's squad for the competition but missed the opening game as he travelled to Morecambe for the Magpies' Capital One Cup tie on Wednesday night.
However he will now link back up with his national team ahead of their next game, against Turkey on Friday.
United winger Daniel Barlaser is likely to be in the opposition line-up. He played for 70 minutes as the young Turks lost 3-2 to Italy.
