Loan Watch: Conor And Co Dumped Out

Written by Newcastle Utd

Holders St. Mirren were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup on Tuesday night, with Conor Newton involved for the Buddies

Conor Newton scored the winning goal in last season's Scottish League Cup final and he started as St. Mirren began their defence of the trophy at Queen of the South on Tuesday night.

But there will be no repeat of their Hampden heroics as the Buddies bowed out 2-1 after extra time.

Newton was substituted after 76 minutes with the score at 0-0.

Meanwhile in the Capital One Cup second round, Birmingham also required extra time against Yeovil and won on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

Shane Ferguson played no part, having figured in their first round success against Plymouth. He came off towards the end of City's defeat to Leicester at the weekend with a groin injury.

Adam Campbell wasn't involved in Carlisle's 5-2 defeat against Leicester as Newcastle did not want the teenager cup-tied.

On Monday, meanwhile, Jonathan Mitchell played for Workington as they were beaten 1-0 by Guiseley. The goalkeeper made a couple of fine saves but was finally beaten by a last minute Jake Lawlor header.
