Sammy Ameobi made his England under-21 return as Roy Hodgson's Young Lions beat Scotland 6-0 on Tuesday night.
The Newcastle youngster hadn't played for his country since the end of 2011 but won his third cap as a 66th minute substitute in the friendly at Bramall Lane.
He replaced Liverpool's Raheem Sterling on the left wing with senior national team coach Hodgson in charge as the Football Association look to appoint a full-time successor to Stuart Pearce, whose contract was not renewed following the European Under-21 Championships in Israel.
Nathan Redmond opened the scoring in Sheffield after just three minutes before Sterling added a second.
Then in the second half, England ran riot as Connor Wickham, Ross Barkley, Jonjo Shelvey and Tom Carroll all found the net.
Wearing the number 19, Ameobi was lively during his time on the pitch and could have scored himself but fired over in the closing stages.
