Andre Marriner will referee Newcastle United's 2013/14 Barclays Premier League opener away at Manchester City next Monday (8pm kick-off).
The West Midlands-based official was in charge of five Magpies' matches last season - away at Reading and at home to Manchester City, Reading, Stoke Ciy and Liverpool.
In total during 2012/13 he was the man in the middle of 41 games across the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, Capital One Cup and Championship and League One, issuing 128 yellow cards and sending off ten players.
The 42-year-old began refereeing in 1992 when he was asked to stand-in for an official who did not turn up at a local league match, and he progressed through the ranks to become a Football League referee 11 years later.
Marriner's first Premier League appointment came in November 2004 with a 4-0 victory for Charlton Athletic over Norwich City, and he took charge of the 2013 FA Cup final between Manchester City and Wigan at Wembley.
On Monday, Marriner will be assisted by Scott Ledger and Peter Bankes, with Phil Dowd the game's fourth official.
