Loan Watch: Shane Claims Assist

Written by Newcastle Utd

Shane Ferguson set up the only goal of the game as Birmingham won, while Michael Richardson was a TV star for the day

One of Newcastle's loan stars was in the spotlight on Saturday as Accrington Stanley's clash with Portsmouth was shown live on Sky Sports, and Michael Richardson didn't disappoint as he helped his side claim a 2-2 draw.

The flame-haired midfielder played for the first 66 minutes and came off with the scores level at 1-1.

Then later in the afternoon, Birmingham won 1-0 at Yeovil with Shane Ferguson playing the whole match and earning a yellow card.

But he also claimed an assist as his corner was headed against Danny Seaborne by his team-mate Byron Webster for an unfortunate own goal, with ex-Darlington defender Dan Burn in close attendance.

James Tavernier missed Shrewsbury's 3-0 defeat at Leyton Orient. He suffered an ankle injury in training but it is hoped he'll be back in time for next weekend's match against Swindon.
