Rangers v Newcastle: Team News

Tim Krul will make his first appearance of pre-season as Newcastle travel to Rangers

At Ibrox

Tim Krul will make his first appearance of pre-season as Newcastle United travel to Rangers for a friendly on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

The goalkeeper has not featured since April when he dislocated his shoulder in a fall against Sunderland and subsequently underwent surgery.

But Krul is now back to full fitness and starts at Ibrox against the Scottish giants, who currently ply their trade in Division Two.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has named a strong line-up for the warm-up fixture, with Dutch international Krul protected by a back four of Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Davide Santon.

Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote will anchor the midfield, allowing a trio of players in front of them to get forward and create chances. Moussa Sissoko will take up a role wide on the right, with Jonas Gutierrez on the opposite flank and Hatem Ben Arfa in the number ten role.

Last season's 13-goal top scorer Papiss Cisse leads the line on his own, hoping to find the back of the net again following his impressive strike last Tuesday at St. Mirren.

On the substitutes' bench there are places for goalkeeper Rob Elliot, defenders Paul Dummett and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, midfielders Dan Gosling, Vurnon Anita and Sylvain Marveaux, and forwards Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi and Shola Ameobi.

Rangers (4-4-2): Cammy Bell; Richard Foster, Lee McCulloch, Belil Mohsni, Lee Wallace; Arnold Peralta, Ian Black, Lewis Macleod, Nicky Law; Nicky Clark, Jon Daly

Substitutes: Scott Gallacher, Andrew Little, Andy Murdoch, Robbie Crawford, Fraser Aird, Kyle McAusland, Barrie McKay, Chris Hegarty, Luca Gasparotto, Sebastien Faure, Andy Mitchell

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye; Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse

Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Dan Gosling, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux, Yoan Gouffran, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi
