Magpies midfielder Michael Richardson helped Accrington Stanley pull off one of the shocks of the Capital One Cup first round on Tuesday night.
The 21-year-old played the full match at the Riverside Stadium as the League Two side fell behind to an early Lukas Jutkiewicz goal before Michael Carver levelled and then, in the 81st minute, Piero Mingoia scored what proved to be the winner.
Accrington Stanley - who are they? Tony Mowbray's men certainly know all about them now.
Meanwhile Shane Ferguson helped Birmingham to beat Plymouth 3-2 after extra time.
He was replaced by Olly Lee - son of Newcastle legend Rob - in the 90th minute, seconds before the Green Army forced 30 additional minutes with a late equaliser.
But Kyle Bartley's strike put Lee Clark's team through to the second round.
However, James Tavernier's Shrewsbury are out after a 3-1 defeat at home to Bolton. Tavernier played the full game.
