They were unable to help Newcastle win the Milk Cup this week but Magpies youngsters Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman were given some good news with call-ups for the England under-17 squad for the forthcoming FA International Tournament.
John Peacock's Young Lions will face Italy, Turkey and Portugal at Burton's Pirelli Stadium between Wednesday, August 28th and Sunday, September 1st with the squad based at St. George's Park.
Woodman has already won five caps at under-17 level but it is Armstrong's first call-up at that age group, although he and Woodman both helped England under-16s to win the Victory Shield last term.
The tournament is part of England's preparation for this season's European Championships campaign, which begins in October.
Newcastle lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Globe section final in Northern Ireland on Friday, with Armstrong scoring four goals in the competition and Woodman keeping two clean sheets.
The squad is: Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United), Ryan Huddart (Arsenal), Tosin Adarabioyo (Manchester City), Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Manchester United), Joseph Gomez (Charlton Athletic), Jonjoe Kenny (Everton), Max Lowe (Derby County), Tafari Moore (Arsenal), Isaac Christie-Davies (Chelsea), Lewis Cook (Leeds United), Dan Crowley (Arsenal), Ryan Ledson (Everton), Josh Onomah (Tottenham Hotspur), Adam Armstrong (Newcastle United), Isaiah Brown (Chelsea), Demetri Mitchell (Manchester United), Patrick Roberts (Fulham), Dominic Solanke (Chelsea).
