SECOND HALF UPDATES

90mins: It's finished here at St. Mirren Park and Newcastle are deserved winners. They failed to add any further goals to their 2-0 half-time lead but it was a convincing victory for the Magpies and Alan Pardew will be pleased with what he saw here in Paisley. United also ended the game with seven Academy products on the field.

86mins: Two more changes for the hosts - Kealan Dillion and Jason Naismith are on for John McGinn and David Van Zanten.

83mins: A great chance for the Saints as Gary Teale delivers and Kelly, with his first touch, heads wide.

82mins: Multiple substitutions as Sean Kelly, Darren McGregor and Anton Brady replace Steven Thompson, Jim Goodwin and Gary Harkins for St. Mirren while Remie Streete and Mike Williamson come on for Fabricio Coloccini and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa for the Magpies.

75mins: A great moment for young Conor Newton as he comes on against his old club and, having scored the winning goal in the Scottish League Cup final, he is cheered to the rafters by the home fans as he replaces Cheick Tiote.

71mins: Dummett is desperate for a goal against the Buddies and, after some neat interplay from the Magpies, he strides forwards and shoots from 22 yards. The power is there but the placement isn't quite and it flies just wide.

69mins: Vuckic wins a free-kick as he bursts past Goodwin and is then fouled by the defender, and the Slovenian takes the set-piece himself. He floats it towards the far post where it's met by the head of Dummett, but the angle is against him and he sends it too close to Cornell.

65mins: Four changes for Newcastle: Hatem Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling, Rob Elliot and Papiss Cisse make way for Yoan Gouffran, Haris Vuckic, Jak Alnwick and Adam Campbell.

63mins: Tonight's attendance is announced as 4,216, of which 709 are Newcastle fans. They are generously applauded for their dedication by the St. Mirren supporters as the figure is read out over the tannoy.

61mins: Dummett pokes the ball to Ameobi, who shimmies past his marker and whips in a low cross-cum-shot. Gosling slides in to try and divert it goalwards but a touch from a defender takes it away from him before he can meet it.

60mins: Now Gosling turns provider to slide in Cisse but the striker is off balance as he hits his shot and it swerves wide.

59mins: The impressive Gosling once again times his run to perfection to get on the end of Santon's deflected cross, but his acrobatic effort hits a black and white shirt to take the sting out of it.

52mins: Coloccini's clever long pass finds the run of Cisse and his snapshot from the right-hand channel just lacks the power to trouble Cornell, who gathers easily.

48mins: Ben Arfa's clever reverse pass allows Santon to dink over a cross from the right and Gosling, arriving with a trademark late run, should score but heads over the bar.

46mins: Davide Santon replaces Matthew Debuchy at half-time and slots in at right-back as United get the second half started.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

45mins: The half-time whistle sounds and Newcastle lead 2-0. It's been comfortable for the Magpies so far against the Scottish League Cup holders and there's been some slick football on show from Alan Pardew's side. 43mins: Buddies skipper Jim Goodwin dallies on the ball and Gosling pinches it before unleashing a powerful drive from 22 yards which flies narrowly off target as Cornell flies to his left in case it had been a few inches lower.

39mins: Gary Harkins takes a free-kick for the Saints in a decent position but whips his shot well over the bar as Elliot still waits for a chance to impress.

37mins: Dummett's eyes light up as he plays a one-two with Cisse and, against his old club, has a shot from the edge of the area on his favoured left foot but alas the full-back's effort is too high.

33mins: Reilly tries his luck from distance but his low strike from 25 yards zips wide of Elliot's goal without unduly worrying the Magpies goalkeeper, who has only had a couple of crosses to deal with so far.

26mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (0-2): Mathieu Debuchy has his first goal for Newcastle and although there was a hint of offside, the French international isn't complaining. Anita played a pass into space and as the St. Mirren defence stopped, Debuchy kept running into the box before confidently sliding the ball home. The home fans aren't happy but the Magpies supporters behind the other goal have more reason to celebrate.

23mins: Ameobi, a constant threat on the left hand side so far, almost has his second assist of the night as he sprints to the dead ball line and stands up a cross for Gosling, whose header is expertly pushed away at full stretch by Cornell.

19mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (0-1): Papiss Cisse is back with a bang. He scores a wonderful goal to put the Magpies ahead, first cushioning Dummett's pass to Ameobi and then receiving the ball back before arcing a beautiful strike from the left-hand side of the box beyond David Cornell in the Buddies goal.

12mins: Cisse does well to lay the ball off for Sammy Ameobi and he shows good skill and strength to get to the byline and then cut inside - but he ran the ball out of play in the process and play is brought back as he takes a shot which is blocked.

10mins: Reilly is now on the receiving end as Fabricio Coloccini clears a high ball but also catches the Saints man in a tender area, but he is back on his feet quickly.

6mins: Baby-faced Saints youngster Thomas Reilly may look innocent but a late tackle on Vurnon Anita near the halfway line was anything but and the Dutchman requires lengthy treatment before he is able to carry on. In a competitive game, a yellow card would surely have been shown but not on this occasion.

3mins: Dan Gosling, playing his first game of the summer, robs John McGinn in midfield and slides the ball to Papiss Cisse, who is also appearing in his first pre-season friendly. The Senegalese striker's lack of sharpness shows as he scuffs wide of the far post.

 1min: Tonight, the black and white stripes belong to St. Mirren and Newcastle are in their denim blue change kit once again. Before the game, Paul Dummett and Conor Newton - who both helped the Buddies to win the Scottish League Cup last season - were given a great reception from the home fans and it's the home side who take kick-off.
