Loan Watch: Friendly Fire

Written by Newcastle Utd

Shane Ferguson and James Tavernier were in pre-season action for their loan sides on Saturday and both finished on the winning side

Shane Ferguson and James Tavernier helped their respective loan clubs to friendly victories over Premier League opposition on Saturday.

Birmingham beat Hull City 2-1 at St. Andrew's and it was from Ferguson's 12th minute corner that Matt Green headed the Blues in front.

Andrew Shinnie then made it 2-0 before Sone Aluko pulled one back for the Tigers, for whom former Magpies keeper Steve Harper was an unused substitute.

Meanwhile Shrewsbury were 3-2 victors over a Manchester City XI, with Tavernier completing 90 minutes at right-back less than 24 hours after completing his temporary switch to Shropshire.

However, Tavernier had already played once for the Shrews, appearing in their midweek friendly win over Birmingham as a trialist.
