Pav's Pride In Former Housemate Krul

Written by Newcastle Utd

Pavel Srnicek has spoken of his pride in seeing former housemate Tim Krul grow from a teenager to a full international

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek says Tim Krul is as safe as houses - and he should know.

After all, the popular Czech shot-stopper used to live with United's current number one, who is on course to be fit for the start of next season after recovering from a dislocated shoulder.

Srnicek had two spells at St. James' Park and it was in the second - between 2006 and 2007 - that he first saw a young Krul, who had only just arrived on Tyneside from his hometown club Den Haag.

Nowadays, he's a full Holland international and is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Barclays Premier League having made 106 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions, and Srnicek told nufc.co.uk how proud he is of his former housemate's progress.

"I met Tim for the first time when I came back for the second spell and at that time he was a very interesting young goalkeeper coming through," he remembered.

"He was 17 at that time, training with the first team and getting some experience. I was coming to cover Steve Harper and Shay Given, and Tim was behind us.

"He came from Holland and we lived in the same house when I came back for that period, so I know Tim very well from that time.

"And he's proven how good he is since then, which is great to see."
