Paul Dummett with the Scottish League Cup

When a Newcastle XI travel to Paisley to face St. Mirren on Tuesday, 30th July, Paul Dummett and Conor Newton could be forgiven if they accidentally enter the wrong dressing room.

The 21-year-old pair spent time on loan with the Buddies last season, making 35 and 19 appearances respectively and helping them to lift the Scottish League Cup as midfielder Newton scored the winning goal in the final.

Both are now back at St. James' Park but are set to make a quick return to St. Mirren Park for the friendly, which was announced as part of United's pre-season schedule this week, and are sure to receive a great welcome from the home supporters.

The Saints ended a 26-year wait for silverware when they beat Hearts 3-2 at Hampden Park in March and the Magpies are set to send a mix of first-team squad players and under-21 prospects to Renfrewshire.

Defender Dummett - who made his Newcastle debut against Brighton in the FA Cup last season - is likely to be involved and told nufc.co.uk: "I'm buzzing to go back there to play against the team I helped to make history.

"For me it was the most memorable season of my career so far because of the Scottish League Cup win. I made a lot of friends at St. Mirren so, if selected to play, I can't wait to play against the friends I made while I was there.

"I'm particularly looking forward to coming up against Gary Teale, a full Scotland international. That will be a good test for me if I'm selected to play.

"And of course it will be great to see the fans again, but not just the fans - everyone behind the scenes and most importantly the manager, Danny Lennon, and his assistant Tommy Craig for giving me the opportunity to go to St. Mirren and play week in, week out.

"It has improved me as a player and I can't thank those two enough for what they have done.

"So I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone there and hopefully it will be a really good game for both teams."

Ticket prices for the 7.30pm kick-off at St. Mirren Park are £15 for adults, £8 concessions and £5 for children.
