Shola Ameobi

Lee Probert will take charge of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture away at Queens Park Rangers on Sunday (3pm).

It is the third time this season the Wiltshire-based whistler has overseen a Magpies match, having been the man in the middle of United's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at the start of September, and their 2-0 FA Cup third round exit to Brighton in January.

On that afternoon at the Amex Stadium, Probert booked four players including Mehdi Abeid and Shola Ameobi - twice - who was duly sent off.

In total during the 2012/13 term, he has refereed 34 games across the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, Championship, League One, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, issuing 110 yellow cards, seven reds and awarding nine penalties.

Forty-year-old Probert began refereeing in 1986 in the local Bristol leagues, before working his way up the ladder and into the Football League in 2003.

He officially became a top-flight referee in the summer of 2007, but had already overseen his first Premier League fixture earlier that year as part of a trial.

On Sunday at Loftus Road, Probert will be assisted by Stuart Burt and Dave Bryan, with Paul Tierney the game's fourth official.
