Sammy Ameobi

Sammy Ameobi will make his first Newcastle appearance since February when United under-21s take on Everton in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League play-offs on Tuesday (kick-off 7pm).

The Magpies travel to Goodison Park after winning Tier Two on Friday night, and take on the Tier One champions in the Toffees, who are unbeaten at this level in 2013.

Alan Stubbs was at Whitley Park to watch United against Bolton last week but the squad has a slightly different look about it this time around.

Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick returns after injury while England under-21 international Ameobi comes into the reckoning after returning from a loan spell at Middlesbrough. He is one of three players with senior experience, joining Gael Bigirimana and James Tavernier.

For Reserve Team Manager Willie Donachie, it is a return to one of his old clubs - he was Joe Royle's assistant when the Blues won the FA Cup in 1995 - while Football Development Manager Peter Beardsley spent two years with Everton as a player.

"There's a lot of good people there and it's a really good club with a lot of tradition," said Donachie. "They do things right and I've got a lot of respect for the staff there and the manager.

"So it'll be great to go back there but more importantly, it'll be fantastic for our players. First of all, it's a great pitch so there'll be no excuses about the pitch, and there should be a good crowd and a good atmosphere.

"It really will be a great experience for them." Admission on the turnstiles at Goodison Park is £5 for adults and £3 concessions (cash only).

The squad is: Rolando Aarons, Lewis Aird, Jak Alnwick, Sammy Ameobi, Gael Bigirimana, Macaulay Gillesphey, Alex Gilliead, Bradden Inman, Steven Logan, Kevin Mbabu, Brandon Miele, Jonathan Mitchell, Michael Richardson, Lubo Satka, James Tavernier.
