Kick Off Derby Day In Style

Written by Newcastle Utd

Head to the Terrace bar before kick-off on Sunday, for a question and answer session with ex-Magpies defender John Anderson

Newcastle United fans can build up to the Barclays Premier League clash with Sunderland in style this Sunday by joining former Magpies defender and current BBC Radio Newcastle summariser John Anderson at St. James' Park's newest bar - the Terrace.

Ahead of a noon kick-off, the former Irish international will be taking part in a question and answer session with supporters and host Justin Lockwood from 9.45am, giving fans 45 minutes to get warmed up once the bar opens its doors at 9am.

The Terrace bar - the culmination of a stunning £300,000 transformation of the Club's former ticket office - was launched with a special VIP event earlier this week, with club legend Bob Moncur pulling the first ceremonial pint alongside current Magpies stars Tim Krul, Steven Taylor, Ryan Taylor and James Perch.

Anderson, who made 339 appearances for the club, said: "The Terrace bar is a great addition to the stadium. I'm sure it will be extremely popular, particularly ahead of a game as huge as the derby on Sunday.

"These games are always huge. They're something you look forward to. I'm probably more nervous and excited now than I was when I played so I'm really looking forward to it and having a chat with fans in the bar beforehand will be a great place to start."

Entry is free and the 700-capacity venue will remain open for two hours after the final whistle, with drinks offers and dozens of televisions - including two 84-inch screens - featuring sports news and live action to keep supporters entertained.

Colin Perkins, regional account director of Sodexo Prestige, which operates catering and events at Newcastle United, said: "The Terrace bar has already proven to be hugely popular during the Club's last two fixtures and we're continuing to receive excellent feedback regarding the look and feel of the bar in addition to things like service quality and drinks offers.

"The question and answer session with someone who has played in this derby fixture is a great way to build up to the game, so I'm sure there will be a great atmosphere here on Sunday."

Ideal for pre and post-match drinks, the Terrace also doubles up as an ideal venue for private events. For more information or to book now, email [email protected] or call 0844 372 1892 and select option 3.
