Bob Moncur raises a glass

Hundreds of fans joined Newcastle United stars past and present to toast the grand opening of the first new bar at St. James' Park in nearly a decade.

Steven Taylor, Tim Krul, James Perch and Ryan Taylor joined Bob Moncur, Managing Director Derek Llambias and lucky supporters who won tickets via nufc.co.uk and the @NUFCOfficial Twitter page at the official launch of the Terrace bar on Tuesday night.

A former ticket office in the South West corner of the ground has been transformed into a 700-capacity bar which will be open on matchdays and available for parties and other social events.

The stylish £300,000 development opened its doors for the first time ahead of the Fulham game on Sunday but a star-studded event was held this week to celebrate.

And while Ryan Taylor tends to steer clear of bars during the football season - particularly as he has been recovering from injury - he was certainly at home amongst the football-themed decor and dozens of televisions showing live action and Sky Sports News.

"It's nice," he told nufc.co.uk as he mingled with supporters. "There's a couple more televisions than the average bar but when it comes to watching football I suppose you wouldn't miss a kick.

"I'm impressed with it and it looks like it's quite trendy as well. I'd imagine it's a great place to watch football and, with it open for home games, if you couldn't get another ticket then you've got another option to come the bar with your mates.

"You're actually in the ground, the pitch is only a few yards away, so it's a nice touch because you don't really see stadiums with a bar like this."

With Galatasary v Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund v Malaga both screened, Taylor admitted that he was spoilt for choice.

"It's a shame there's no English teams but it's a good spectacle anyway with the Madrid game," he said.

"They're showing both games - there's certainly enough televisions - and it's a good place to come and watch a game of footy with your mates."
