On his 14th appearance for St. Mirren, Conor Newton scored his second senior goal as the Buddies drew 2-2 with Motherwell to all but hand the Scottish Premier League title to Celtic.
The on-loan midfielder's long-range strike in the 41st minute cancelled out Michael Higdon's opener before former Newcastle youngster Lewis Guy scored in the 75th minute to put the Saints ahead. But James McFadden equalised in the 84th minute to mean that Celtic will have to wait another week to clinch the championship despite their 3-0 win over Hibernian.
Fellow Newcastle youngster Paul Dummett made his 30th St. Mirren appearance and, like Newton, played the whole game.
Meanwhile Sammy Ameobi started for Middlesbrough at Hull City in the Championship, but Boro failed to win for the sixth game in a row.
Ameobi was replaced by Scott McDonald in the 67th minute with Tony Mowbray's men a goal down, but they were unable to force an equaliser.
Shane Ferguson extended his loan at Birmingham last week but was missing from their squad at home to Millwall through illness as Lee Clark's side drew 1-1.
On Friday evening, Mehdi Abeid played the full 90 minutes for St. Johnstone in a 0-0 draw at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The midfielder had a goal disallowed and came close to scoring on two other occasions, while he also picked up a yellow card.
Sunday will see Bradden Inman's Crewe Alexandra take on Southend in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Wembley.
