Magpies Heading For Lisbon

Written by Newcastle Utd

Find out who's in the squad for United's Europa League quarter-final first-leg trip to Benfica

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Newcastle United are jetting out to Portugal ahead of Thursday night's Europa League quarter-final first-leg fixture against Benfica (8.05pm kick-off GMT).

Manager Alan Pardew has named an experienced 19-man party for the match at the Estadio da Luz, in Lisbon.

There is a place for fit-again goalkeeper Tim Krul, who has missed the last seven games with an ankle injury, while centre-back Mike Williamson, whose last outing came on 19th January against Reading, is also on the plane along the likes of long-serving striker Shola Ameobi, midfielder Yohan Cabaye and Argentine international Jonas Gutierrez.

At the other end of the spectrum is 18-year-old Adam Campbell, who became the Magpies' youngest European debutant when he featured against Atromitos in the competition's qualifying round last August, and there is also a place for teenage midfielder Gael Bigirimana.

As always, nufc.co.uk is the only place to come for in-depth coverage of United, be it at home or abroad.

Managing Editor Anthony Marshall and Club Reporter Dan King will bring fans previews, live text updates, reports and reaction from the fixture, with Club Photographer Ian Horrocks providing exclusive images all the way.

And Newcastle supporters should also stay tuned to nufcTV, as Video Reporter Rob Scanlon supplies the manager's pre-game press conference, post-match interviews and highlights exclusively for our subscribers.
