Swiss Starlet Selected For Stoke

Written by Newcastle Utd

Teenage defender Kevin Mbabu is part of the Newcastle under-21 squad to face Stoke City on Easter Monday

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

January signing Kevin Mbabu will make his long-awaited debut for Newcastle against Stoke City in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League on Easter Monday.

The Swiss teenager has had to wait patiently for clearance to come through following his arrival from Servette but is included in Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley's side for the 2pm kick-off at the Potters' Clayton Wood training ground.

Originally scheduled for the evening at Nantwich Town's Weaver Stadium, the match was switched due to the EvoStik Premier League outfit having a fixture on the same day and, with Stoke's first-team training on Monday, the under-21 clash is behind closed doors.

James Tavernier and Romain Amalfitano bring senior experience to the Magpies side while Michael Richardson is back from a loan spell at Gillingham and Alex Gilliead is included after playing for England under-17s last week.

Curtis Good was on the bench at Manchester City on Saturday but it's back to reality for the Australian youngster as he drops back to the second-string.

The squad is: Jak Alnwick, Romain Amalfitano, Alex Gilliead, Curtis Good, Alex Kitchen, Steven Logan, Kevin Mbabu, Brandon Miele, Jonathan Mitchell, Yven Moyo, Alex Nicholson, Jonathyn Quinn, Michael Richardson, Lubo Satka, Remie Streete, James Tavernier.
