Newcastle United 0

SECOND HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons90+3 min: Manchester City 4 Newcastle United 0.

83 min: Substitute Sinclair almost scores within seconds of coming on but his curling effort from the edge of the box is tipped around the post by Elliot, who had to dive at full stretch to his left.

SUB-MDC-icons81 min: Scott Sinclair makes a rare appearance for the league title holders, as the former Swansea man comes on for David Silva.

78 min: Simpson's low cross from the right is controlled by Gutierrez, who tees up Gosling for a first time shot from 15 yards out but Hart dives to his left and makes a comfortable save.

SUB-MDC-icons73 min: A third and final change for United, as Yohan Cabaye makes way for Gael Bigirimana.

SUB-MDC-icons72 min: Vincent Kompany trots off to warm applause from the Etihad faithful, with Javier Garcia on to replace him.

SUB-MDC-icons70 min: Sergio Aguero makes his return from injury, as the frontman replaces Samir Nasri.

GOAL-MDC-icons69 min - MANCHESTER CITY GOAL (4-0): Toure bursts past a couple of challenges and shoots from a tight angle. The ball takes a deflection off Perch, who had slid in to try and block the effort, and Eliot can't keep the ball out despite getting a hand to the shot.

SUB-MDC-icons 62 min: Alan Pardew makes a second change as Dan Gosling replaces Yoan Gouffran. Meanwhile, today's attendance is announced - 47,201.

58 min: Dzeko fires a fierce shot on goal from the right side of the box and Elliot palms the ball over the bar. The home side, buoyed by their three goal cushion, look hungry for more.

GOAL-MDC-icons55 min - MANCHESTER CITY GOAL (3-0): A City corner is cleared to the edge of the box and Barry shoots right footed, then Kompany diverts the ball in with a flick of his right foot. After an excellent start to the second half. United see all their good work undone by what looks like the killer goal.

48 min: The Magpies nearly pull a goal back through Cabaye. The influential midfielder flicks a ball to Sissoko, who hooks the ball back into the skipper's path but his shot across Hart's goal fizzes narrowly wide.

SUB-MDC-iconsWHISTLE-MDC-icons46 min: United make a change at the break as Gabriel Obertan makes way for James Perch. The second half is now underway

FIRST HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons 45+3min: The whistle blows for half-time, with the hosts ahead after two goals just before the break. After a tepid opening half an hour or so, Roberto Mancini's side have found their cutting edge and two neat strikes have given them an advantage that their pressure probably deserves.

GOAL-MDC-icons 45+2min - MANCHESTER CITY GOAL (2-0): Silva caps a neat move as he collects a pass from Nasri and shoots low across Elliot and into the bottom corner of the net from 10 yards out. It's a big ask for United to come back from this now.

45 min: Elliot keeps the score at 1-0 with a fabulous fingertip save to deny Dzeko. The former Charlton stopper leaps to his left to get a touch on the striker's effort from 12 yards out.

GOAL-MDC-icons 40 min - MANCHESTER CITY GOAL (1-0): The Premier League Champions lead with a simple goal. Clichy's overlapping run enables him to roll across an enticing ball that Elliot can't reach and Tevez slides in to convert at the far post from close range.

38 min: Roberto Mancini's side have the ball in the net but Silva's effort is correctly ruled out for offside after Nasri flicked a pass through into the box. Silva poked the ball beyond Elliot but was clearly in an offside position and the assistant's flag was raised.

36 min: Nasri clips in a cross from the right that evades a cluster of player and finds Clichy. The full-back chests the ball down and fires a half-volley at the near post that Elliot beats away.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons28 min: Cabaye is beaten to the ball by Tevez, and the United skipper's follow-through catches the forward, resulting in a yellow card. Silva beats the wall with the free-kick that follows, but Elliot watches the ball sail wide of his left hand post.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons26 min: Anita picks up the first booking of the game for a mis-timed sliding challenge on Silva. Tevez lifts the subsequent free-kick over from 22 yards out.

24 min: The home side should score after some fine work by Nasri, who weaves around two United players near the corner flag and sends in a low cross that eventually reaches Barry. The England midfielder blasts over from eight yards out.

23 min: Anita's perfectly flighted diagonal 30 yard pass seeks out Cisse, who strikes a crisp volley from an acute angle that Hart looks to have saved with his leg. However, the referee gives a goal kick, suggesting it hit the outside of the post instead.

16 min: Nasri curls in a free-kick from 30 yards out that Elliot moves off his line to punch away two-fisted. The hosts have dominated possession at the moment but haven't had any shots on target. It's a very subdued atmosphere here at the Etihad, with home fans understandably downbeat after the result from the Manchester United match.

14 min: Yaya Toure receives a reverse pass from Barry and forces a corner off Gutierrez. Silva's left footed delivery is nodded away by Yanga-Mbiwa.

11 min: A strong run from Zabaleta forces the first corner of the game. Silva swings the ball across from the right side but Elliot leaps to make a comfortable catch above his head.

8 min: Dzeko evades the sliding challenge of Simpson on the left wing and aims a low cross into the six yard box, which Elliot dives down to smother at his near post.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons1 min:  Stand-in skipper Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko get us underway. The hosts, who are now 18 points behind leaders Manchester United after the Red Devils' 1-0 victory at Sunderland earlier this afternoon, are in their home strip of sky blue shirts, white shorts and blue socks with navy trim. United are also in their home kit of black and white striped shirts, black shorts and socks. It's a sunny but chilly day in the North-West of England, as the Magpies look for a second away victory in the league this season.
