It's Swarbrick At City

Written by Newcastle Utd

Neil Swarbrick will be the referee when Newcastle United travel to Manchester City on Saturday

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Neil Swarbrick will take charge of Newcastle's game at champions Manchester City on Saturday.

It will be the 42-year-old's second Magpies fixture of the season, the other being September's 1-0 win over Norwich City when he booked Cheick Tiote for United and Jonny Howson from the Canaries. He has shown 86 yellows cards and only one red in total this term.

Last season he officiated in two Magpies' matches - a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, and a 1-0 home victory over Wigan Athletic.

The Lancashire-based whistler only took up refereeing at the age of 29, but within six years was promoted to the national list of assistant referees, and four years later was added to the referees list.

Swarbrick's first Premier League appointment came in December 2010, when he was the man in the middle of a goalless draw between Fulham and Sunderland.

He will be assisted by Scott Ledger and Gary Beswick while Phil Dowd is the fourth official at the Etihad.
