Legends Return To St. James' Park

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United Foundation will be hosting a star-studded Hall of Fame dinner on Wednesday night at St. James' Park

Some of the greatest figures from Newcastle United's illustrious history will return to St. James' Park on Wednesday as the Club's official registered charity - the Newcastle United Foundation - celebrates its inaugural Hall of Fame dinner.

Toon heroes including Alan Shearer, Bob Moncur, Peter Beardsley and Faustino Asprilla will be joined by current players, staff and supporters to see the first five Club legends inducted at the star-studded event, which is sponsored by one of the region's leading leisure organisations - the Malhotra Group.

There are five categories in total across the Foundation's Hall of Fame, with five nominated players being inducted alongside two legendary teams, a revered manager and two special individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the community and grassroots football.

Current Magpies striker Shola Ameobi, who has played alongside many of those attending Wednesday's event, said: "There have been some incredible players who have represented Newcastle United over the years so it's great to get together and recognise and celebrate their contributions.

"It's also a big night for the Newcastle United Foundation. Being from the city, I know this Club has one of the strongest connections with its community in the country so the Foundation's work is a huge part of what we're all about. We're delighted to support them."

Ameobi will be joined by a number of teammates including Jonas Gutierrez, Ryan Taylor, Yoan Gouffran and Gael Bigirimana, as well as members of the Club's board and management team.

The event will be hosted by charismatic Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling, who - alongside Malhotra Group and club technical partner Puma - has generously donated one of several incredible auction prizes.

These include an exclusive three-course home fine dining experience with head chef Lee Bell from Louis' Restaurant in Jesmond, including food and waitress service, a signed pair of running spikes from the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, and an unforgettable Sky Sports Soccer Saturday live experience including flights and accommodation.

Sarah Medcalf, fundraising manager at Newcastle United Foundation, said: "The Club has produced so many footballing legends and this is an opportunity not just to honour them, but to also shine a light on those whose dedication to the sport has been just as great but who may not be so well known.

"The launch dinner will be a sensational night of entertainment, food and football. I'd like to thank our principal sponsors, Malhotra Group, and our generous suppliers for all of their support in making it happen."

All funds raised from the night will go to the Newcastle United Foundation, which supports more than 38,000 disadvantaged children, young people and families throughout the region every year.
