Alan Pardew praised his Newcastle United side for 'winning ugly' as they launched another home fightback to see off Stoke on Sunday.
The Magpies fell behind midway through the second half to a Jonathan Walters penalty, but Yohan Cabaye and Papiss Cisse were on target for the hosts at St. James' Park to turn the Premier League fixture on its head and secure maximum points.
United have been through similar scenarios in their previous two Tyneside league games - against Chelsea and Southampton - with identical victorious outcomes.
And manager Pardew believes they yet again ground out the win on a difficult afternoon.
"It was a tough game," he told nufcTV.
"Stoke are really tough opposition, our fans are intelligent enough to know that. They defended deep, got bodies behind the ball, made us make mistake and we looked ugly.
"But that's what they are good at, and they are always a threat, so to win it was a massive bonus for us.
"We were quicker in the second half from set-plays - our throw-ins, goal-kicks and free-kicks.
"We sharpened up a bit, which we needed to do and were brighter in our passing, creating a few moments.
"The three points are enormous. We've got nine game to get seven points to be safe, and I can't not see us doing that. We now have some nice breathing space."
