Bradden Inman returned to the North-East with Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night - but was on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat to Hartlepool United.
Struggling Pools have staged something of a revival in recent weeks and easily saw off the Railwaymen at Victoria Park.
To make matters worse, Inman came off after 50 minutes with an ankle injury which Crewe will hope does not keep him out for Saturday's home game against Portsmouth.
Charlie Wyke put Pools ahead on 27 minutes and Jonathan Franks made it two 13 minutes later.
Andy Monkhouse wrapped the game up in the final minute.
In League Two, meanwhile, Michael Richardson is still awaiting his Gillingham debut after being an unused substitute for the third match in a row as his side lost 1-0 at home to Oxford.
Wednesday night sees Bradford, fresh from their Capital One Cup final defeat to Swansea, host Dagenham and Redbridge with Curtis Good hoping to be involved. St. Mirren, who should include Paul Dummett and Conor Newton, host Hearts while Mehdi Abeid's St. Johnstone take on Dundee.
But Sammy Ameobi is cup-tied for Middlesbrough's FA Cup clash with Chelsea.
