Debutant Pawson In Charge At Swans

Written by Newcastle Utd

Craig Pawson will take charge of Newcastle United's Premier League fixture away at Swansea on Saturday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Referee Craig Pawson will make his Premier League bow on Saturday when he takes charge of Newcastle United's trip to Swansea City in the Barclays Premier League (3pm kick-off).

The rookie has been a regular on the whistle in the Football League over the last five seasons, and is being given his chance to step up to the top flight for the first time this weekend.

Even though Pawson has never officiated in the Premier League, he has overseen a Magpies match before - the 2-0 win away at Plymouth in April 2010 which secured the Championship title.

In total this term, South-Yorkshire based Pawson has refereed 26 games this season across the FA Cup, Capital One Cup, Championship, League One and League Two, issuing 72 yellow cards and three red cards.

On Saturday at the Liberty Stadium, Pawson will be assisted by Andy Garratt and Stephen Child, with Mike Dean the game's fourth official.
